Joe McAuley Thompson passed away on April 13, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born on August 10, 1932, in Newcastle, Texas. He and his wife, Pat, moved to Fort Davis in 1998 as he always had a great love for the area.

He served in the Army for two years receiving an honorable discharge. Was employed as a DPS Officer with Texas Department of Public Safety, then served with the Federal Government as a Border Patrol Officer, U. S. Customs Officer, U. S. Customs Instructor for Saudi Arabian Foreign Training Program in Memphis, Tennessee. He received numerous distinguished awards during his service in both agencies, upon completion of his career with the Federal Government he retired in 1986. He was a professional photographer, a small plane pilot, private investigator, Captain of the Texas State Guard Desert and Mountain Rescue, Fabens and contracted by the Federal Government as an investigator. He was an avid lover of the outdoors enjoying camping, backpacking, and hunting with his family and friends, absorbed the wonderous sights of wildlife and God’s countryside, and was grateful for opportunities to explore near and far places experiencing a variety of cultures on his travels.

He is preceded in death by, his father, Herman McAuley Thompson, his mother, Cara Jane Bullock Thompson, and his sister, Emily Thompson.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patsy Ruth Thompson, his son, Ronald McAuley Thompson, and his daughter, Lynn Ann Thompson Roberts, his three grandchildren, Jacob and wife Melissa, of California, Sarah Lynn and Hannah of Texas, and his eight great-grandchildren, Conor, Anthony, Madilynn, Oliver, John, Agnes, Miles and Finneas.

Services will be held at Mobile Mortician of Texas, Fort Davis, on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 10 am (43430 Hwy 17 S.).
