Dr. Pamela Louise “The Colonel” Dalzell, aged 73, of Fort Davis, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on September 20th, 2023.  Pam was born on July 16th, 1950 to Lois and Thomas Cooney of Akron, Ohio.  After graduating from Euclid High School in 1968, Pamela went on to earn her  RN,  Bachelors of RN, Masters of RN, Licensed Nurse Practitioner  and eventually, her Doctorate of Licensed  Nurse Practitioner.   She enjoyed learning and at her time of death was working towards another degree, but this time in Astrophysics. 

 

Pamela entered the Army in 1982 as a first lieutenant in the Army Reserves.  Over the next 40 years, she served her country in the military with tours in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Darfur and Panama.  She graduated from the Army War College in July of  2007 with a Masters degree in Strategic Studies  and retired with the rank of Colonel in 2010. During her career as a nurse, she worked at the Clinical Research Center at the University of Minnesota, Unity Hospital, the VA in Minneapolis  and a homeless clinic in El Paso   Pam moved to Fort Davis in 2005 and started working at the Fort Davis Family Practice where she retired in 2021.   She loved her friends and family fiercely and enjoyed baking, crocheting, being outside in her yard, playing with dogs, camping and starting the day with a great cup of coffee.  She believed Christmas should be celebrated all year long and LOVED her Christmas lights. 

 

Dr. Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Thomas and her brother Douglas Cooney.  She is survived by her daughter, Angela Wallin (Breezy Point, MN); her son, Bryan Dalzell (South St. Paul, MN); three grandchildren, Tyler, Maren and Luna and her three brothers, Ron, David and Phil. 

 

A service of remembrance was held at the Kelly Pavillion in Fort Davis on September 22nd, 2023.  A military service will take place at a date to be determined  at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, Minnesota.
